A.R. Rahman Release Thirukkural In Rap Format

In a recent interview to a tabloid, A R Rahman expressed his desire to release the Tamil verse collection Thirukkural in rap format. He replied so when asked what would be his contribution to the younger generation.

Rahman further mentioned that the project would involve desi Rapper Blazee, who is already on the job of preparing the format and would be a novel attempt to popularize Tamil literature. As per Rahman, Blazee would sing Thirukkural in rap version and Carnatic music would be used to mix in the background. Rahman was also quoted as saying by the tabloid that he would only produce the album and music would be rendered by Blazee himself.

The organizers of the audio launch function of Saroja were in for some uneasy moments when the director-turned-actor Ameer took the mike to address the gathering. Speaking at the function, he posed a question to ace music director A.R. Rahman, who incidentally was not present at the venue, as to why he prefers commercial films and avoided composing music for emotion-oriented films. He also wanted to know why A.R. Rahman refused to consider budding directors like him but readily agrees to compose music for experienced directors like Bharathiraja and Balachander.

It is also to be noted that during the Sakarakatti audio launch, Ameer expressed his desire to meet Rahman personally in the near future.

A. R. Rahman Turned Up At The Audio Launch Of "Saroja"

In a rare gesture, ace music composer A R Rahman turned up at the audio launch of 'Saroja', which has musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and heaped laurels on his contemporary.

The much awaited audio of 'Saroja' was released in a glittering function in Chennai in which the whole gamut of Tamil Cinema took part.

A grand stage resembling an awards nite was put up. The cast and crew of 'Saroja' and top honchos of Tamil film industry turned up for the mega event.

The whole of Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam wore a festive look as festoons and banners of ‘Saroja’ were put up all through the locality.

The show began with tremendous cheers from the audience. An exclusive soundtrack from Yuvan Shankar Raja in English was screened to rapturous applause. It was followed by a couple of songs which were also well appreciated by the huge gathering.

The 'Making of Saroja' and the 'Behind The Scenes', were aired on huge screens erected at the venue and it was applauded all the way.

The clock struck 8.30 pm and it was the turn of Rahman, Yuvan Shankar, veteran director Bharathirajaa, directors Ameer, Dharani, actors Jayaram, Sundar C, Vishal, Jayam Ravi, Prasanna, actresses Sneha, Trisha, Kushboo, Sona, Nikitha, veteran singer S P Balasubramaniam among others to throng the stage. The audio was released amidst thunderous cheers from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahman said, ' I am a great fan of Yuvan Shankar Raja. I know him for the past two decades from the time I worked with Ilayaraja. Coming from the family of legends, he has established a place for himself with his unique style'.

Bharathirajaa, on his part, expressed his awe at seeing the trailer. ‘Saroja’ is on par with any Hollywood project. 'Director Venkat Prabhu has made an attempt to take our country to greater heights. The youngsters deserve a pat'.

Jayaram, Sundar C, Ameer, Dharani among others spoke on the occasion.

Venkat Prabhu spoke in detail the hard work the crew had put in and the efforts taken to recreate the magic of 'Chennai 600028' in 'Saroja'. Producer T Siva of Amma creations also spoke on the occasion.

In conclusion, the 'Saroja' audio launch function was unique and refreshing and would surely go down as a memorable occasion in the history of Indian cinema.

A.R. Rahman Next Bharathiraja Project

Bharathiraja poured his heart out over the Sakarakatti audio launch and expressed his longing to cast A R Rahman in one of his movies. In his address during the audio launch held yesterday at the Sathyam theatres, Bharathiraja declared that it was a difficult task to meet Rahman, leave alone getting his tunes.

He’s constantly flying between London, New York, and Paris. Getting his tunes is equivalent to extracting milk from a tigress,” Bharathiraja revealed to the invitees at the launch. “Besides, he is blessed with beautiful and expressive eyes which I would definitely put to use in one of my movies,” he added. Further, addressing to Rahman he also reiterated that Rahman would be a part of one of his movies in the near future.

Rahman, on the other hand, was seen sober to all of Bharathiraja’s comments and acknowledged them with an occasional smile.

Could you tell us about the film’s collections?

These are the biggest openings in my entire career. I have seen the figures, it is a blockbuster, no doubt about it.

You have received accolades for your 10 roles. But on the other hand, critics are saying that the film is very confusing and has no story.

There is always criticism. In fact, I myself am my biggest critic.

Dasavatharam is based on the ‘chaos theory’ and we established it very well. I don’t know where it could be confusing. The 10 roles that I enacted are established within 20 minutes of the film’s run. The only thing is one has to be a little attentive. That`s what we were going for.

What are the best compliments you have received so far?

My Guru K Balachander brought me to tears with his praise after watching the film. Never did I expect such a response. My friend Rajini said he wanted to watch such movies alongside audiences in theatres.

Do you really believe that the American President George Bush doesn’t know what NACL is?

Not just NACL, he doesn’t know many things. I didn’t want to go into that. He said recently that the reason for rise of prices is due to over consumption of Indian food products.

What are your next projects?

My next film is Marmayogi. Then I will do Marudhanayagam, and I hope I will get enough money to make it.
