Ramba Play Again










After almost three years, actress Ramba makes her comeback in Kollywood with 'Vidiyum Varai Kathiru'.

A once sought-after glam doll, Ramba had played her part exceedingly well in several films including Rajinikanth's 'Arunachalam' and Kamal Haasan's 'Kadhala Kadhala'. She even ventured to produce a movie titled 'Three Roses' which featured Jyothika and Laila besides her.

Ramba, who established a place for herself in Tollywood, is now hosting a dance show in a private satellite channel.

Says Ramba, ' I was waiting for the right script. Though several offers came my way, I was not keen on making a hurried return. Fortunately the right script came my way with 'Vidiyum Varai Kathiru'.

The movie features Prakash Raj in the lead role. Plans are on to make the film simultaneously in Telugu as well.

"Paruthi Veeran" Got Six Filmfare Awards





















It was a joyous moment for Tamil cinema as 'Paruthi Veeran' grabbed six awards including the awards for best actor and actress at the 55th annual Filmfare Awards held in Chennai on Saturday. Veteran film personalities Sivakumar and Jayapradha were conferred the lifetime achievement awards on the occasion.


Quite typical to any film award functions, the annual Filmfare awards at Chennai Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium witnessed variety dance performances by Poonam Bajwa, Rambha, Dhivya, Hanshika Motwani, Shobana, Namitha, Shriya, Raja and Vineeth. Members of dance master Kala's troupe accompanied them on stage.

The awards function was graced by the who's who of Indian cinema besides noted politician Amar Singh.

Sivakumar was given lifetime achievement award by his sons Suriya and Karthi. It turned out to be an emotional moment as Sivakumar was almost moved to tears. Jayapradha was given the award by Amar Singh.

The glittering awards function was attended by Mohanlal, Ileana, Nayantara, Sarath Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Venkatesh, Madhavan, Rakshitha, Allu Arjun, Srikanth, Lingusamy, Vasanth, Ravi Theja, Swarnamalya, Sumalatha, Charmi, Vimala Raman, Sindhoora, Lakshmi Rai, Saranya, Poornima, Meena, Shaam, Naren among others.

Nandita Das In & As "Firaaq"

Nandita Das, known for her powerful performances in serious films, has completed her first directorial venture 'Firaaq'. A take on the infamous Godhra episode that rocked Gujarat in 2002, the movie stars Paresh Rawal, Naseeruddin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Dipti Naval, Raghuvir Yadav and Sanjay Suri.

Through the film, Nandhitha wants to convey that violence is not a solution to any social problems, but can only lead to more societal problems and destruction. The movie has been produced by Percept Picture Company (PPC).

'Firaaq' is slated for release in October, this year.

Nandita Das had rocked Tamil audiences with her powerful performances in 'Azhagi' and 'Kannathi Muthamittal'.

Jiva Next Project "Thenavettu" Released Soon





Jiiva starrer Thenavettu, written and directed by V.V. Kadhir, which is to be released soon, has obtained a clean ‘U’ certificate for a clean entertainer. Jiiva plays the protagonist Kottaisamy who comes to Chennai in search of a job. Mumbai beauty Poonam Bajwa is the female lead. Revathy, a transgender person, is also playing a key role in the film.

This commercial entertainer was shot in and around Chennai, Madurai, Kumbakonam, Araku Valley and Rajamundhry. Some sequences of Thenavettu were shot in a village near Panruti involving around 35 stunt men and 500 co-artistes.

Srikanth Deva has composed music and Vetri has handled the camera. The movie is produced under the banner of ELK Productions.

Vairamuthu Celebrates His Birthday Tomorrow




Veteran poet and lyricist Vairamuthu celebrates his birthday tomorrow. Several programmes are planned to celebrate this day. The poet will meet Chief Minister Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi to get his blessings.

The day is celebrated as Poets' Day every year and an award for the best poet of the year is also given. This year the Rs. 20,000 cash prize will be given to Kavignar Sirpi Balasubramanium. The event will take place at Ponamani Maligai Marriage Hall, Chennai at 10 a.m. tomorrow. A book on Vairamuthu, written by Marabin Mayinthan Muthaiah will also be released. Titled 'Oru Thopu Kuyilaga', the book will be released by Prof. Parveen Sultana. Vairamuthu will also visit Marina Beach and garland the statues of poets there.

"Poi Solla Porom" Audio Launched

Priyadarshan and his Four Frames Pictures along with UTV, released the music album and a promotional video of their new film (Poi Solla Porom (PSP) at the Green Park Hotel in Chennai on Friday morning.

The film is a situational laugh riot directed by Vijay who last did Kireedam. "PSP is pure comedy entertainment. It is a fun movie with the youth brigade of Karthik, debutant Preethi, Omar, Boskey, John Vijay, Balaji, Justina and veterans like Nassar, Nedumudi Venu and others. Arvind Krishna is the cameraman, while M.G Sreekumar the noted Malayalam playback singer is making his debut in Tamil as a music director", says Vijay.

The promotional video shown at the function is rip-roaring and well made. All the songs of M.G Sreekumar are hummable. Sreekumar who was away in US on a concert could not make it to the function. The audio has six songs written by Na. Muthukumar. The audio is marketed by Big Music.l
